Another entry from the Amazon Original Stories Busybodies Collection #1 comes from USA Today best-selling author Jesse Q. Sutanto (known for several popular series including the Vera Wang mysteries and the Aunties series). In this short story, The Reunion Dinner, Sutanto does what she does best: provides the reader (or listener) with a narrative packed with humor and insight into dysfunctional family dynamics while simultaneously dealing with a corpse.

We meet Josephine, aspiring hostess for this year’s Chinese New Year (CNY) dinner. This is Josephine’s big chance to usurp Big Uncle’s since he broke his hip and cannot fulfill his annual hosting duties. Josephine believes if she can throw a decadent party that involves an entire roast pig and other delicacies, she will become the family favorite for hosting duties every Chinese New Year. She’s not going to let the corpse of her son’s fiancée ruin her chances at becoming the best hostess in the family. Josephine will prove that she can not only cook great food and throw a party, she can solve a murder as well.

This is a quick read or listen (available in e-book or in Audible formats) for some CNY fun and a very good detecting time.
