Crime of Fashion: A fashion mystery from Audible Originals
If you enjoy fashion and mystery, then Emma Rosenblum’s Crime of Fashion should be an enjoyable mini-break for you. Rosenblum, a former executive editor at Elle, introduces the reader into the cutthroat world of fashion through the eyes of a Nellie Otis, an assistant at Elle. Nellie’s rather unglamorous job within the world of fashion afforded her the ability to dress down for fashion shoots but still be answerable to the managing editor, a new hire with a lot to prove. To add to the stress, Nellie must delicately handle a photographer with a much-tarnished image who only got the job because the new editor owed him, a piranha of a fallen star who jumped at the chance to do the shoot when her rival mysteriously(???) got sick at the last minute, and finally, a stylist who makes monsters seem friendly.
If Nellie isn’t busy enough navigating the waters of a fashion shoot steeped in narcissism and boderline personality disorder, a $3 million Bulgari necklace goes missing during a locked room shoot and she gets blamed. Can Nellie be her own advocate to not only investigate but solve the mystery before she becomes unemployed? Vicariously enjoy the life of Nellie and secretly rejoice that you don’t have to navigate these shark-infested waters on a daily basis. Or, conversely, quit your job and move to New York, so you, too, can be accused of theft and possibly worse.
